The motto "pleasure for your eyes" gives the Hotel Greif its own special aura. Each of the 33 rooms is furnished with a specially created work of art that makes it unique. The owner of the hotel, Franz Staffler, was assisted in selecting the artists by Andreas Hapkemeyer, Bolzano Museum of Modern Art, and the art historian Carl Kraus Innsbruck.
In twenty rooms, these contemporary works are set off by others by famous 18th, 19th and 20th century artists. All these works, with their delicate sensuality and the exquisite ambience of the rooms create a very special atmosphere in this hotel.
The history of the Hotel Greif dates back to the Middle Ages. Located on Walther Square, just inside the town walls of that time, it was known to travellers as the Black Griffin Inn.
From the year 1600 on, the names of all its owners and leaseholders have been recorded in official documents. In 1816 the inn was sold to Peter Staffler from Siffian (near Bolzano) and since then it and its successor, the Hotel Greif, have been owned by the Staffler family.
