FONTANA CALDA is located around 4km to the east of Sciacca, and about the same distance from the sea. It lies at the foot of SAN CALOGERO mountain, renowned for the therapeutic effects of the natural vapours filling its upper caves. Twixt mountain and sea, Fontana Calda nestles in 7 acres of its own olive trees, with views along a fertile valley and with glimpses of the coast. Its idyllic setting makes FONTANA CALDA the perfect home-from-home for those seeking historic towns, archaeological sites, seaside and unspoilt rural tranquillity. In our large villa, built in 2004, we live in the ground floor: my husband Massimo, Sicilian (a very simpatico one), our son David, 1/3 German + 2/3 Sicilian (that's what he says) and last but non least me, Doris, German (having lived here in Sicily for more than 10 years). Our lovely dog, Rubbia, and our cat, Chip, are also part of the family.
The four apartments are situated on the first floor (mansard). All have a private terrace with sunloungers, tables and umbrellas, and are fully equipped with TV, Hi-Fi, heating/air conditioning, and have fully-equipped kitchens, with generous provision of extra-virgin olive oil from our own estate. Towels and bed-linen are provided. There are central facilities for laundry, ironing and internet, and ample free parking space.
SCIACCA (ca.40.000 inhabitants) lies midway between the ancient temples of Selinunte to the west, and Agrigento to the east. It's one of the oldest towns in the island, and a bustling fishing port. Sciacca is noted mostly for its Thermal Spa complex, its beautiful, safe, beaches, and its artisans selling distinctive ceramic ware.
Within few minutes’ drive from FONTANA CALDA you will find restaurants, pubs, banks, supermarkets, post office, hairdressers, cinemas, museum, churches and other visitor attractions. Within ten minutes’ drive lie the finest beaches (rocks or sand, as you like). There is an abundance of good, reasonably priced eating establishments in the area. These include pizzerias and restaurants. Anything from the plain and reasonably priced, to the more sophisticated palate are catered for.
From Sciacca you can easily reach other important sights: Palermo - 90 km; Segesta - 75 km; Selinunte - 30 km; Monreale and Erice - 75 km; Agrigento and its Valley of the Temples - 55 km; Piazza Armerina with its Roman villa and mosaics - 150 km; and the Phoenician sites at Marsala - 65 km.
