Colombotte is a small village of about fifty inhabitants situated in Haute Saône, Franche Comté, between the Vosges and Jura mountains in (the north-eastern part of) France.
It is an unspoiled country of hills, vast woods with decidious trees, estates and farmlands, brooks and rivulets; together they form a surprisingly beauytiful walking- and cycling region where quietness reigns and all that within less than 590 km from Calais.
La Tourelle is in upper Colombotte. Long ago it was a fortified farmhouse dominating the village; it has been converted, with much respect for its original appearance, into a chambres et tables d’hôtes – the French version of bed-and-breakfast. It is an ideal startingpoint for walking- and cycling-tours.
Comfortable Rooms
The four rooms are very comfortable and they all have their own bathroom. The common 'salon' downstairs has a fire-side, a large reading/dinner table and cosy corners with a more intimate atmosphere.
In La Grange, the former barn, are now more simple double bedrooms with two common bathrooms and toilets. The empty space a little bit higher, the so-called 'vide', is a place to relax; from there you have a grand view of the hill-side.
This area in the northeast of France consists of unspoilt countryside with forests, lakes and small rivers. The hilly surroundings of Colombotte are still a surprise for visitors; there is an easy-going atmosphere and the lack of noise has a healing effect on everyone. The woodlands covered with indeginious trees, the undulating farmlands, meadows and orchards are ideal for walking and cycling.
Vesoul is a busy but friendly countrytown with a lot of facilities,a medieval indoor market, squares with terraces and restaurants.
Luxeuil-les-Bains is a nice old spa. The nearby Ballons d ‘Alsace and Les Milles Etangs are worthwhile visiting.
An other trip leads to Ronchamp with its world-famous chapel by Le Corbusier.Further to the south is Besançon with its splendid medieval castle.
