Quinta Odelouca is situated 35 km North of Albufeira, in the Algarve region. You will find our small campsite in the midst of the low hills of the Monchique mountains, close to the river Odelouca and São Marcos da Serra. A spot for all those who love the countryside and nature. It offers lots of possibilities for hiking and mountain biking, and still it is quite close to the beautiful Algarve coastline. Among the hills, you can still find villages from former times, where there is still small-scale agriculture, where shepherds graze their sheep and goats, and where authentic products are still produced.
Almost everywhere rosemary, heather and cistus are blooming. The hills are covered with cork oaks (sobreiros), holm oaks (azinheiras) and strawberry trees (medronheiros).
The “medronheiro” has orange-coloured fruit, of which the famous and highly appreciated “medronho”, a sort of brandy, is produced, as well as a liqueur.
A visit to the many historical little towns like Silves, Alte, Lagos and Ferragudo, an old fishing port, is highly recommended. And you can also make a tour along the old little churches in the surrounding area, for instance in S.B. de Messines and São Marcos da Serra. On top of the coastal cliffs you can go for walks and relax on one of the little beaches. And also a visit to the most southwestern point of Europe (Cabo de São Vicente) is absolutely worthwhile.
